Michel Ghanem (he/him) aka tvscholar

Hello, telephiles. I have a Master of Arts in fashion studies from Toronto Metropolitan University, during which I wrote a thesis on costume design and madness on television through the lens of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. I engaged in some doctoral work and research in a PhD program before withdrawing in early 2020, but I’m still disseminating my experience in grad school, discourse on television and its multiplicities. I’m constantly watching/learning/writing about television as much as I can, which is how this newsletter (and tvscholar, the Instagram account) came to be.

I have also contributed to…

The Cut, W magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, TheWrap, PrimeTimer, Public Books, Public Parking, Dame magazine, Fashionista, and elsewhere.

For enquiries…

including, but not limited to: television-related consulting opportunities, PR pitches for interviews and screeners, podcast/panel/talk invites, please email me: michel.tvscholar@gmail.com. For friendly hellos, feel free to DM me on Instagram (@tvscholar) or Twitter (@tv_scholar).

This newsletter is predominantly written from my apartment in Vancouver, on the unceded and ancestral territory of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples, the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

the tv scholar newsletter is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
